We've All Been There
We've all thought of a really cool idea, spoke about it with others, and dwelled on the thought of what it would look like if it became a reality.... but then never really put in much effort into making it happen. This can come about for a few reasons but usually, it can be due to laziness or lack of motivation, however, this is can actually be due to fear.
Fear can make us believe that we will probably fail, making us question what the point is in even starting. However, this as we already know is super counterproductive to our growth and, we really achieve much.
"I want to get better first. I want to go in prepared and when I feel like I'm ready"
"The cost is a bit much and I haven't even started yet"
"What if no one likes it?"
Does any of these sound familiar? These are all forms of fear that need to be addressed and thankfully, I got five things that will help you to break through any mental barriers that you may be facing
Find you why
Creating nowadays has been overshadowed by likes, follows, and monetization, and much less about the actual enjoyment and fulfillment that it is meant to bring you. A great way of getting through all the noise that gets pushed in our face is to have a strong why as to the reason you do what you do.
This shouldn't be something complicated, it needs to be personal to you, something that can keep you creating even when you don't feel fully motivated to do so because it serves a bigger purpose to you than hoping your next piece of content goes viral.
Know your why and stick to it.
Forget about perfectionism
Perfect is the enemy of good. It will stop you from putting out work and as a result, hinder your growth. Your skill is going to improve as you continue on, so allowing yourself to work on something new will enable that, rather than working on the same piece of work on end.
This is detrimental to your growth, especially when you're starting out.
Flip fear on itself
Fear of starting is usually a barrier that a lot of us have faced, so why don't we use this to fuel our ambitions and our ‘why’ to start our journeys and build up our skillset. Think of all the things that you would be missing out on if don't start. This literally helps me to continue creating because I don't want to be daydreaming of all the things that could've been achieved if I had only started.
By taking accountability for your own growth by doing the work, you flip fear on itself to motivate you.
There's never a good time to start
This applies to everything you decide to begin in life, and honestly, the start is hard due to having to enter the unknown. So you might as well make a start right? If you continue to wait or time your start, you're not going to be better off. The best practice is to just start and enjoy the process!
So once you do start:
Keep the momentum
This along with discipline will create a new habit that will carry you along your creative journey. As you've found your 'why' you still have the foundation to build everything else from, and if you haven't figured that out yet, that's okay. You learn along the way, so whatever plans you have thought up, you know that you can definitely set them in motion
